The helicopter Mil Mi-8 is a multipurpose vehicle and is manufactured in passenger, transport and business versions. It is designated for passenger, freight and postal transportations in regions which are difficult of access, as well as for special aerial operations in various sectors of national economy.
For more than 40 years, this rotary-wing aircraft properly performs heavy work in many countries of the world, and has proved itself as a reliable multipurpose vehicle.
The transport version of Mil Mi-8 has a cargo compartment of about 23 cubic meters with a reinforced floor, cargo tie-down fittings etc. Its cabin has a sliding door on the left side, a cargo hatch with opening shutters at the fuselage rear, and 22 folding seats installed alongside.
Transportation of freights weighting up to 4000 kg in the cabin is possible. In order to download wheeled vehicles, the helicopter is equipped with adjustable track ladders. Mil Mi-8 can be converted into an ambulance, a ferry version or into the version with external load with loading capacity up to 3000 kg. On board of a helicopter a winch with board arm can be installed. It allows lifting hovering loads up to 150 kg.
The passenger version of the helicopter is equipped with soft passenger seats, which quantity may be increased up to 28 passengers. It is equipped with ventilation and heating systems. The portholes of this helicopter version have wide rectangular shape. At the fuselage rear on both sides of a helicopter emergency exits are located.
A helicopter Mil Mi-8 can be used as an ambulance and as a transport plane (with small cargoes inside the cabin).
A helicopter Mil Mi-8 is equipped with more powerful altitude engines. It is able to take off and land at altitudes up to 4000 meters and to flight at altitudes up to 6000 m. Engines are protected by dust protection devices.
Oversize loads up to 3000 kg can be transported with the external load. A cargo compartment has enlarged left and additional right doors. A ramp is located at the fuselage rear. Cargoes up to 4,000 kg can be transported in the cabin of the helicopter.
There is a winch on board of the helicopter that has a load capacity up to 300 kg. A rescue basket for two persons can be mounted to the winch. It provides more efficient work of rescuers, including when working on sea crafts.
In the nose of a helicopter, under the nose dome a modern navigation equipment radar is installed.
